So when the committee* (*this is actually just Connor’s fault!) rescheduled our Gothic Funk Hangout for this Friday, we didn’t account for the schedule of the Rebels in Print exhibition at the FIA and now we have missed it!
We’re sorry about this goof up — we were really looking forward to it — but we’ve decided to go ahead with the hangout at scheduled for a couple of reasons:
- The Flint Institute of Arts is truly one of Flint’s treasures, including the second largest collection in the State of Michigan (there’s no shame in coming second to the Detroit Institute of Arts!) and it is a truly sprawling collection, taking in works from around the world and throughout history, including the Bray Renaissance Galleries that seems almost like it has been spelled in from a fantasy novel, and downright oneiric contemporary glass and ceramic galleries. We will not want for cool things to see!
- This has been a week of colossal distress and upheaval in the U.S. and around the world; in times like this it is tempting to cocoon ourselves in comfort and isolation, but meeting up in a communal spirit, when we are able to do so, is both healthy and energizing. It is also ideal for making plans to meet the challenges ahead.
So we hope to see you at the Flint Institute of Arts on Friday!
